2014 Local Primary Elections

2014 Local Primary Elections

The primary is around the corner and wanted to fill everyone in on the contested races we have here locally.

State Representative 79th District
Both John Howard and current Rep Kate Cloonen are running in the Democrat primary.   Ms Cloonen was elected to her first term at State Rep last election cycle and Mr Howard has represented the south east portion of Kankakee County on the board since 2012.

Glenn Nixon is uncontested in the Republican primary.

Kankakee County Sheriff
Current sheriff Timothy Bukowski and Darrel Smith are both running as republicans in the primary.  The sheriff’s department is very important to the county as it currently generates over $30,000 a day for the county, (over $10,000,000 a year).   These funds are used to operate the bed rental program as well as operate the local sheriff services and pay for the infrastructure investment of the sheriff’s complex.

There is currently no candidate for the democrats.

County Board District 4
Incumbent John Howard (who is also running for State Rep) is being challenged by Samuel Payton in the democrat primary.  District 4 includes the south east portion of Kankakee County.

County Board District 10
Chris Tholen and Gerald Cavanaugh are running for the district 10 seat.   Chris Tholen is a local small business owner and the current representative.

County Board District 22
Recently appointed board member Stephen Einfeldt is being challenged by Antonio Carrico.  Antonio ran for State Rep in 2012, the bourbonnais township elections in 2013 and is now running for county board.   Stephen was just appointed after former board member Chad Miller moved out of district and submitted his resignation.

County Board District 28
Both Steve Liehr and Todd Arsenau are running in the republican primary.  Both candidates have been on the county board and both have also served as vice-chair of the county board.    District 28 is overwhelmingly republican so this primary is more of a general election scenario.
